For the seasons of Lent and Easter we will be journeying through Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). In this series we will be highlighting the Sermon as the narrow path and firm foundation for true flourishing and wholeness. Through our series in the Beatitudes last Fall, we saw that Jesus invites us to live counter-culturally—pursuing, among other things, humility, mercy, and righteousness. As we turn our attention to the rest of Jesus’ teachings, we will discover that He reveals the path of integrity, peace, and purity.

This series will emphasize two ways in which Jesus summarizes His teachings in the Sermon: the narrow path and the firm foundation. In a world that offers us fulfillment in fleeting things and momentary flourishing, Jesus' teachings provide the path and solid rock on which lasting joy and purpose are found. Welcome to Rev. Matt Olson, as he leads us in worship this morning.

New Administrative Assistant: We are excited to announce that a new administrative assistant has been hired!  Emily Kramer will be starting tomorrow, April 6.  She brings to the position extensive experience and a great passion for the work.  Her office hours will be 9:00 am to 1:00 pm,    Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Make sure to stop by or call to welcome Emily to Immanuel.

The April Mission of the Month is the American Red Cross.

Children's Ministry:  During the Season of Lent, we are pausing Children and Worship during the service on Sundays and welcome your children to worship with us.  Nursery is available for children ages 0-3. We are also pausing our Wednesday night activities and offering our children's discipleship  opportunities following the worship service on Sundays for children ages 3-5th grade. 

Intergenerational Discipleship: We continue the intergenerational cohort of the Practicing the Way course. We will meet in the youth room downstairs following the service at 11:15 am.

Easter Egg Candy Donations: If you would like to donate candy for our Easter Egg Hunt after the service on Easter Sunday, please drop off your donations in the bin outside of the sanctuary.  Please be sure the candy is individually wrapped and small enough to fit into a small plastic egg.  We will be filling the eggs after the service next Sunday, April 13.

On Sunday, April 13, we invite to join us after the worship service for coffee and treats before we gather around the tables to fill the Easter Eggs

What is the Gospel? What is meant by the Kingdom of Heaven? In this new sermon series, we will look at what makes the Gospel good news and what the reality of the Kingdom of Heaven means for us.

As we explore what Jesus meant when He proclaimed that the Kingdom of Heaven has come near, we will see how the reality of the Kingdom is 3-dimensional. It is the forward-back, upside-down, and inside-out good news of God’s saving work in Christ, and in this series, we will look at how the 3-dimensional reality of the Kingdom shapes our church’s mission and values. The Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom we will see, reaches each of u personally, but it is not a private matter.

Join us as we seek to see the Gospel in 3D and how the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom shapes our mission and values.

February Mission of the Month: The City Rescue Mission of Lansing is a Christian ministry that serves Michigan's capital area, meeting the physical needs of food and shelter, and bringing those with spiritual needs the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

CONNECT this Wednesday, February 26: We will be serving pancakes and sausage for dinner at 5:30 pm. After dinner the CONNECT Kids and the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will meet.

“Practicing The Way” Class: This class meets in the Morningside room at 6:30 pm, after the CONNECT dinner. We are studying the spiritual practice of prayer. Please join us!

Elder & Deacon Nominations: The Consistory will begin working on a slate of nominees for 1 new Elder and 2 New Deacons in preparation for the next Congregational meeting in June. Janet Van Wieren will be rotating off from the Elders. Fred Hannula and Nate Erber will be rotating off from the Deacons.

All members 18 years or older can recommend up to 2 members for the Elder’s office and 4 for the Deacon’s.

Members who are ineligible for nomination because they are either presently serving, or have recently rotated off are: Nate Erber, Jessi Fritzler, Fred H, Sally K, Kerri M, Matt O, Harold S, Dave S, Bruce Tr, and Janet V.

If you are a member and are 18 years or older, please prayerfully consider your recommendations, and then fill out the questionnaire that was shared with the congregation via email.

You may also submit your responses by filling out a paper ballot here at church. The ballots and the ballot box are located by the mailboxes outside of the sanctuary. The deadline for submission of names is Sunday, March 2.

The offering plate is located at the front of the sanctuary. You may also submit an offering online at www.icrclansing.org.

Local Needs:

Personal Needs Closet: Provides personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies to families in need. We are currently in need of women’s shampoo & conditioner, men’s shaving cream, and toilet paper. Please place donations in the baskets under the mailboxes outside of the sanctuary.

February Mission of the Month: The City Rescue Mission of Lansing is a Christian ministry that serves Michigan's capital area, meeting the physical needs of food and shelter, and bringing those with spiritual needs the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ.

CONNECT this Wednesday, February 19: We will be serving nachos for dinner at 5:30 pm. After dinner the CONNECT Kids and the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will meet.

“Practicing The Way” Class: This class meets in the Morningside room at 6:30 pm, after the CONNECT dinner. We are studying the spiritual practice of prayer. Please join us!

Date Change: The Family Game Night has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 22, at 6pm. We will be playing Bingo in the Morningside Room.  Please bring your favorite snack to share. All ages are welcome. Come enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship.

Sunday, March 9th: We will begin an intergenerational cohort of the Practicing the Way course. We will meet in the youth room downstairs following the service at 11:15 am. Our hope is that this will be an intergenerational group learning together what it means to live as followers of Jesus. Everyone from high schoolers to retirees are encouraged to attend. The course is 8 sessions long.

Mobile Food Bank: We will have another mobile food bank here on Saturday, March 1st, from 9-11 am. If you would like to help out, please sign up via our website.

Elder & Deacon Nominations: The Consistory will begin working on a slate of nominees for 1 new Elder and 2 New Deacons in preparation for the next Congregational meeting in June. Janet Van Wieren will be rotating off from the Elders. Fred Hannula and Nate Erber will be rotating off from the Deacons.

All members 18 years or older can recommend up to 2 members for the Elder’s office and 4 for the Deacon’s.

Members who are ineligible for nomination because they are either presently serving, or have recently rotated off are: Nate Erber, Jessi Fritzler,

Fred Hannula, Sally Kapenga, Kerri Miller, Matt Oudsema, Harold Seelye, Dave South, Bruce Ter Haar, and Janet Van Wieren.

What is the Gospel? What is meant by the Kingdom of Heaven? In this new sermon series, we will look at what makes the Gospel good news and what the reality of the Kingdom of Heaven means for us.

As we explore what Jesus meant when He proclaimed that the Kingdom of Heaven has come near, we will see how the reality of the Kingdom is 3-dimensional. It is the forward-back, upside-down, and inside-out good news of God’s saving work in Christ, and in this series, we will look at how the 3-dimensional reality of the Kingdom shapes our church’s mission and values. The Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom we will see, reaches each of u personally, but it is not a private matter.

Please welcome Rev. Annalise Radcliffe who is here to give us the message this morning, as well as tell us about her work for the RCA's Next Generation Engagement and Growing Young initiatives, so that we might learn more about the work the RCA is doing to reach and grow the younger generation in Christ as well as be encouraged to join in that work ourselves.

Annalise is the Director of Future Church Innovation for the Reformed Church in America. She also serves co-vocationally as the mission executive pastor of City Chapel in Grand Rapids, MI.

On the side, she enjoys photography, building towers with her sons, playing 7 Wonders (board game) with her husband Ron, walking the dog, and reading.

What is the Gospel? What is meant by the Kingdom of Heaven? In this new sermon series, we will look at what makes the Gospel good news and what the reality of the Kingdom of Heaven means for us.

As we explore what Jesus meant when He proclaimed that the Kingdom of Heaven has come near, we will see how the reality of the Kingdom is 3-dimensional. It is the forward-back, upside-down, and inside-out good news of God’s saving work in Christ, and in this series, we will look at how the 3-dimensional reality of the Kingdom shapes our church’s mission and values. The Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom we will see, reaches each of u personally, but it is not a private matter.

Join us as we seek to see the Gospel in 3D and how the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom shapes our mission and values.

Rose Mary’s 80th Birthday Celebration: The H family invites you to come to the Family Life Center after the service this morning for cake in celebration of Rose Mary’s 80th birthday on January 15th!

CONNECT this Wednesday, January 15th: We will be serving meatball subs, salad, and dessert for dinner, at 5:30 pm. After dinner the CONNECT Kids and the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will meet.

Adult Game Night: Join us in the Morningside room for an adult game night on Saturday, January 18th, at 6pm. Bring your favorite games and a snack to share. We hope to see you there!

Celebration for Coach Fred: Please join us in the Family Life Center, after the service, Sunday, January 19th, to say farewell to Coach Fred and his wife Karen and to celebrate Coach Fred’s many years at Immanuel heading up the basketball camp program.

Seeing Jesus Together Check-In Meeting: We will have a check-in meeting for those who have been doing the “Seeing Jesus Together” journals, after the worship service on Sunday, February 9th, to see how it’s been going. If you have been working on this journal, please join us in the Morningside room at that time. If you would like to purchase a journal for yourself or for somebody else, we do have 6 left. The cost is $15.

Advent is a season marked by waiting and anticipation. The word Advent comes from a Latin word that means arrival or coming. In Advent we wait and anticipate the arrival of Christmas morning, and in our waiting, we are reminded of Israel's long waiting for the anticipated arrival of the Messiah. As we are reminded of their waiting, we too are reminded that we are in our own moment of waiting as we wait for not just Christmas morning, but the arrival of Christ's return. In Advent we are reminded that Christ has come and is coming again one day. 

As we await Christ's return our Advent sermon series will take us through the family tree of Jesus in Matthew 1:1-17. In this series we will see how the God we wait on in this Advent season works through the unconventional and improbable to bring a new beginning out of what has been broken. In this series through Matthew 1:1-17 we will see how the family Jesus came from reveals to us who Jesus came for.

December Mission of the Month: Ele's Place provides onsite and school-based bereavement programming for children ages 3-18 who have experienced a death in their lives. These programs are provided at no cost to their families and provide children and teens with an opportunity to safely grieve. Initial programming at Ele's Place began in 1991 and served many children in the Lansing area. Today, with 30+ years of history, they have served more than 43,000 individuals and have branch locations across the state of Michigan.

Blue Christmas Service: This afternoon, at 3:00 pm. The merry and bright season of Christmas can be hard for those who have experienced loss. This Advent season we want to give space to all of those who are mourning and grieving any type of loss and pain in their lives. However fresh or processed your grief is, we invite you to join us as we light candles in mourning our losses and in the hope of the Light that shines in the darkness.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service: This Tuesday, December 24th, at 6pm. Join us as we celebrate the birth of our Savior through scripture, songs, the lighting of the Christ candle, and a Christmas message.

No CONNECT: There will be no CONNECT dinner or youth group meetings on Wednesday, December 25th, or Wednesday, January 1st due to the holidays. We will resume meeting on Wednesday, January 8th.

Christmas Craft Celebrations: This Wednesday, December 18th, we will have a community Christmas Family Fun night here at Immanuel, from 6-7:30 pm. All families will enter the church through the main entrance and go up to the sanctuary to watch a short movie called, “The Small One”. After the movie they will head down to the Family Life Center to celebrate Christmas with crafts and cookie decorating. Please note there will be no dinner served this evening.  

Volunteers Needed for the Christmas Craft Celebration Event: We need people to help welcome and guide families to the sanctuary for the movie. We need help supervising the kids with the crafts, and helpers to decorate pre-frosted cookies with the kids. To volunteer, please sign up via our website, or on the Church Center App. Volunteers please plan on arriving between 5:00-5:15 pm.

Advent is a season marked by waiting and anticipation. The word Advent comes from a Latin word that means arrival or coming. In Advent we wait and anticipate the arrival of Christmas morning, and in our waiting we are reminded of Israel's long waiting for the anticipated arrival of the Messiah. As we are reminded of their waiting, we too are reminded that we are in our own moment of waiting as we wait for not just Christmas morning, but the arrival of Christ's return. In Advent we are reminded that Christ has come and is coming again one day. 

As we await Christ's return our Advent sermon series will take us through the family tree of Jesus in Matthew 1:1-17. In this series we will see how the God we wait on in this Advent season works through the unconventional and improbable to bring a new beginning out of what has been broken. In this series through Matthew 1:1-17 we will see how the family Jesus came from reveals to us who Jesus came for.

December Mission of the Month: Ele's Place provides onsite and school-based bereavement programming for children ages 3-18 who have experienced a death in their lives. These programs are provided at no cost to their families and provide children and teens with an opportunity to safely grieve. Initial programming at Ele's Place began in 1991 and served many children in the Lansing area. Today, with 30+ years of history, they have served more than 43,000 individuals and have branch locations across the state of Michigan.

CONNECT this Wednesday, December 11: We will be serving mashed potato bowls with biscuits and dessert for dinner, at 5:30 pm. After dinner the CONNECT Kids and the Jr. & Sr. High youth groups will meet.

Christmas Craft Celebrations: Next Wednesday, December 18th, we will have a community Christmas Family Fun night here at Immanuel, from 6-7:30 pm. All families will enter the church through the main entrance and go up to the sanctuary to watch a short movie called, “The Small One”. After the movie they will head down to the Family Life Center to celebrate Christmas with crafts and cookie decorating. Please note there will be no dinner served this evening.  

Mobile Food Bank: We will have another mobile food bank here at Immanuel on Saturday, December 21st, from 9-11 am. If you would like to help sort and put food into cars, please sign up via our website.

Blue Christmas Service: Sunday, December 22, at 3:00 pm. The merry and bright season of Christmas can be hard for those who have experienced loss. This Advent season we want to give space to all of those who are mourning and grieving any type of loss and pain in their lives. However fresh or processed your grief is, we invite you to join us as we light candles in mourning our losses and in the hope of the Light that shines in the darkness.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service: Tuesday, December 24th, at 6pm. Join us as we celebrate the birth of our Savior through scripture, songs, the lighting of the Christ candle, and a Christmas message.

Personal Needs Closet: Provides personal hygiene items and cleaning supplies to families in need. We are currently in need of women’s deodorant and women’s shaving cream. Please place donations in the baskets under the mailboxes outside of the sanctuary.
